Summary of Hosea 2:14-23

God will allure Gomer/Israel, lead her, and speak to her. She will return to God and she/Israel can repent and have peace with God. Hosea’s restoration of Gomer foreshadows God’s future for Israel. The Israelites will be God’s people once again.

Questions for Hosea 2:14-23

9) God says He will allure, her, lead her, and speak tenderly to her. Israel will once again turn to God and away from Baal. God will restore His covenant with Israel, and Israel will acknowledge Him as their Lord. God will show love, compassion, justice, and righteousness once again. The Israelites will be God’s people once again.

10) By blessing me at every turn. Allowing me to pursue my dreams. Having great, healthy children. By forgiving my sins when I fail. Picking me up when I fall. Allowing me to learn from my sins and draw closer to him.

11) No. When God makes a promise, He never breaks it. We can construe punishment as a breaking of God’s promises, but that is not true. He always does what He says He will do.

Conclusions to WordGo’s Study of Hosea 2:14-23

God promises restoration after the punishment. We will forever be God’s people. God refines us each and every day in order to do a deeper work within us. He redeems us to Him no matter what we do. So amazing!

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Hosea: Week 1, Day 3: Hosea 2:2-13

July 17, 2024July 6, 2024 by atozmom, posted in WordGo Hosea

Summary of Hosea 2:2-13

Israel/Gomer is unfaithful to God. God then withdraws His blessings upon her/His people. He promised to punish her for her unfaithfulness. Hosea’s rebuke of Gomer pictures God’s judgment of Israel.

Questions for Hosea 2:2-13

6) Gomer and Israel would suffer: God’s harsh rebuke, Gomer would be stripped naked without blessings. Her children would be rejected by Hosea. She would not find any more lovers. Her path would be blocked. All festivals would end. Wild animals would devour vines and fig trees. Both would be punished by God.

7) God takes sin incredibly seriously. He punishes when we sin, but still redeems. Sin separates us from God, but only temporarily until we ask for forgiveness and come to Him.

8 ) The image of adultery makes me take my small sins much more seriously since adultery is such a big sin in my view. All sin is equal in God’s eyes, but not necessarily in our own.

Conclusions to WordGo’s Study of Hosea 2:2-13

God is always faithful even though we sometimes are not. Sin only leads to emptiness and a feeling of not going anywhere fast. God is our provider, our salvation, our hope. When we trust Him, everything else falls into place.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Hosea: Week 1, Day 2: Hosea 1:1-2:1

July 16, 2024July 6, 2024 by atozmom, posted in WordGo Hosea

Summary of Hosea 1:1-2:1

God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her since God’s people were unfaithful to Him. So, he married Gomer. Gomer had a son, a daughter, and another son. This mirrors how God will rescue His people first through punishment and then reconcile them to Him. It illustrates Israel’s spiritual adultery.

Questions for Hosea 1:1-2:1

3) God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her since God’s people were unfaithful to Him. He obeyed.

4) Hosea’s first son’s name was Jezreel, which means “God scattered” whom God named because the house of Jehu was about to be punished for the massacre at Jezreel. His daughter’s name was Lo-Ruhamah, which means “not loved” because God will no longer show love to Israel. His second son was called Lo-Ammi, which means “not my people” for the Israelites are not His people, and He is not their God. The people have left God for other gods. Israel would no longer be God’s people.

5) Israel would grow into an innumerable number of people. The people would come together. The nation of Israel would be called “children of the living God” and God’s “loved one.”

Conclusions to WordGo’s Study of Hosea 1:1-2:1

Remember Gomer’s betrayal of Hosea mirrors Israel’s abandonment of God. God’s purpose never fails. We must trust Him and His ways.

Summer Bible Study: WordGo’s Study of Hosea: Week 1, Day 1: Hosea 1-3

Summary of Hosea 1

God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her since God’s people were unfaithful to Him. So, he married Gomer. Gomer had a son, a daughter, and another son. This mirrors how God will rescue His people first through punishment and then reconcile them to Him.

Summary of Hosea 2

Israel/Gomer is unfaithful to God. God then withdraws His blessings upon her/His people. He promised to punish her for her unfaithfulness. Then, God will allure her, lead her, and speak to her. She will return to God and she/Israel can repent and have peace with God.

Summary of Hosea 3

The Lord commands Hosea to love his wife again even though she is loved by another man. He is to love her like the Lord loves the Israelites. The Lord will redeem and restore His people no matter their sins.

Questions for Hosea 1-3

1) The Lord uses Hosea’s life to mirror His relationship with His people, the Israelites. God reconciles Himself to His people, which, ultimately, will be through Jesus, His Son.

2) The Lord keeps His promises. He has a reason for everything. He will redeem. This encourages me to keep reading, so I can see how God’s love will unfold.

Conclusions to WordGo’s Study of Hosea 1-3

It’s comforting to know that God has been betrayed like many of us have. God knows, He understands, and He is there for us. He never abandons us.
